Social Drinking

For most people with epilepsy who take anti-epileptic medication the occasional alcoholic drink causes no problems. Over-indulgence in alcohol, however, has been shown to cause seizures and some people do find that they are more prone to seizures in the ‘hang-over’ period. For this reason heavy drinking is best avoided. The use of illicit recreational drugs is not recommended. Amphetamines, ecstasy, cocaine and heroin have all been associated with seizures.
