Another life was sadly claimed late last year by the silent killer – Epilepsy. Very few people understand that epilepsy can be fatal, it is responsible for over 50 deaths a year in Wales, over 500 in the UK. That is more than Aids and Cot Death combined.
So it was with mixed emotions that Debbie and Martyn Butler organised a Charity Golf Day at Bryn Meadows Golf Course in memory of their son, Phylyp. A keen fitness enthusiast himself, Phylyp was a regular at Bryn Meadows and the fact that the organisers could have doubled the 28 teams that took part on the day, is testament to the popularity of this young man. Friends and family made many new friends who wanted to support the day – and thanks to Bryn Meadows and the tireless work put in by the staff at Newbridge Leisure Centre where Phylyp worked – the family were proud to award the Phylyp Butler Memorial Trophy at the end of the day to the winning team – and delighted to have raised over £2,200 for the charity Epilepsy Wales.
The Phylyp Butler Memorial Golf Day is to be an annual event, so please check back to the Epilepsy Wales web site, and the notice boards at Newbridge Leisure Centre and Bryn Meadows Golf Course, for details of next year’s event.
