Walk For Epilepsy – A Personal Message From A Dad Whose Young Son Has Epilepsy

My youngson, Owain, has epilepsy. The actual strain he has is benign epilepsy, which is
the mildest strain and one that he could grow out of, but even though theseizures should be infrequent the next one could still happen at any time. Some sufferers and their families have it much, much harder as more aggressive strains of epilepsy can result in continual daily seizures. This can cause severe damage to the brain, as well as having a detrimental effect on the sufferer’s ability to do the things we take for granted, such as drive a car, go to work, play sport, raise a family etc. With this in mind, I organised a
sponsored walk last year from Cardiff to Merthyr Tydfil, a trip of 27 miles that raised almost £6,000. Thank you very much to all those who donated money and/or took part.

As a follow-on from this, we’ll be doing another sponsored walk in aid of Epilepsy Wales on Sunday 25th September, this time from Rhymney Bridge to Caerffili Castle, a journey of around 18 miles covering the whole of the Rhymney Valley (aka God’s country). A few people have again offered to do all/part of the walk as well. If you’d like to do the same then please join in, as the more people involved the wider the list of contacts we’ll have to raise money. If you’d prefer to donate money instead, then that’s just as important.

I won’t take any offence at all if you ignore this or choose not to donate, but every
little helps. The sole aim of this walk is to raise money for epilepsy care. The more money that’s raised, the better. If you know of other people who might like to help or take part on the day, please can you pass the message on.

If you’d like to donate directly, please do so at http://www.justgiving.com/Ceri-Richards. If you’d prefer to donate personally or don’t like using the internet, please get in touch. All contributions, large or small, are gratefully received for this important, yet largely unpublicised charity. PLEASE TICK THE GIFT AID BOX.

If you’d like to take part in all/part of the walk and don’t care much for your feet, please let me know.

Diolch yn fawr/Many thanks
