This is a very friendly and caring support group providing support, information and social activities for people with epilepsy, together with their families and carers.
The Group meets every Monday with refreshments provided, including toasties, sandwiches, rolls, cakes, tea and coffee. There are plenty of activities including pool, table tennis, darts, bagatelle with quizzes and bingo held once a month
In-house competitions are held for these activities, with the winners getting an engraved shield or cup. A personal award is also given to those who have contributed throughout the year to the running of the Group. All these awards are given out at the annual Presentation Dinner, to which Dr Hywel Francis MP, David Rees AM and their wives are invited and who present the awards.
Some family members have raised funds for us. One cycled from south to north Wales and back again and, despite suffering some seizures during this time, raised £800, whilst another member raised £500 in the Iron Man Competition. Kirsten Orsborn, a young lady with an amazing voice whose mother attends the Group, raised funds for the Group by singing at various venues. She also sang for the Chelsea Pensioners in London in 2014 as part of the First World War commemoration and received a lovely letter from Dame Vera Lynn.
Each year there is a 5 day holiday and 3 to 4 day trips to places of interest and a raffle is held at awareness days to raise much needed funding. The Group attends the annual Epilepsy Wales at the Assembly Day in Cardiff to meet with AMs to put the case for better services for people with epilepsy and the Group also attends the Epilepsy Wales AGM.
The Group also produces a newsletter, detailing all their activities, trips and stories about the members of the group.
A very busy and supportive Group!!
The Support Group Committee receive a cheque from “Awards for All (Wales)” presented by Dr Hywel Francis MP. The cheque will help fund one of the Support Group holidays.
